When do the first CFP rankings come out? College football awaits first top 25 reveal

John Leuzzi, USA TODAY Sun, November 1, 2026 at 3:36 PM UTC · 3 min read About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The flip to November on the calendar doesn't just mean an extra hour of sleep: It also signals the start of the College Football Playoff push , with every game carrying increased postseason implications from here on out.

The first step toward this season's 12-team playoff arrives Tuesday, Nov. 3, when the College Football Playoff selection committee unveils its first rankings of the season.

One year after sneaking into the College Football Playoff as the No. 10 seed and advancing to the national championship game, Miami is expected to debut at No. 1 in Tuesday's rankings. The Hurricanes kept their case by surviving a road test against North Carolina in Week 9, preserving their unbeaten record heading into Saturday's showdown with Notre Dame.

Speaking of the Fighting Irish, Notre Dame bounced back from its loss to BYU two weeks ago with a 35-13 thumping of Navy. But with the Hurricanes next up, a loss already on the resume and no conference championship game, Saturday's game in South Bend has incredibly high stakes for Marcus Freeman's squad.

The Group of 6 race nearly saw a shakeup in Week 9, but No. 22 Boise State held its ground. The Broncos rallied to edge out Texas State, 46-45, in a back-and-forth battle at home, preserving their position as the front runner for the highest-ranked Group of 6 spot in the College Football Playoff race.
