Week 9 NFL schedule, scores, live updates: Browns QB Shedeur Sanders to start vs. Saints; Cam Skattebo doubtful, Emeka Egbuka questionable

Yahoo Sports Staff Updated Sun, November 8, 2026 at 2:46 PM UTC About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Week 9 of the 2026 NFL season is officially the week of the backup quarterback. Days after Baltimore Ravens third-stringer Joe Fagnano was pushed into action on "Thursday Night Football," a number of backups will take the field hoping for better results in Week 9.

The most notable name on that list is Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who will draw the start against the New Orleans Saints after Deshaun Watson was concussed in Week 8. It will mark Sanders' first start of the season.

He's far from the only backup being thrust into the spotlight Sunday. Joe Milton III will get his first start with the Philadelphia Eagles. He'll take on J.J. McCarthy, who will look to keep impressing with the New York Giants.

Elsewhere, Drew Lock will start for the Seattle Seahawks in place of Sam Darnold. He'll take on Gardner Minshew, who replaced Jacoby Brissett as the Arizona Cardinals' starter.

Additionally, there are a number of major injuries to follow heading into the week. Giants running back Cam Skattebo is doubtful with a hamstring issue. Wideout Emeka Egbuka is in danger of missing Sunday night's game against the Chicago Bears due to a foot issue.

Also of note, we've got two teams on bye this week, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans.

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson released a statement on social media Friday explaining that his absence from the team is due to "unexplained neurological symptoms" that forced him to be hospitalized. Some of his "physical functions" have also been affected.

Henderson says he was examined, and while the results were "positive and reassuring," doctors have yet to determine a cause.

"Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days," Henderson wrote. "During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable.

"I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions. I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities."

The 24-year-old Henderson suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 4 and was initially expected to be out for multiple weeks. He did not miss a game as he played against the New York Jets and Chicago Bears, rushing for a total of 40 yards on 10 carries.

Henderson was ruled out of last week's win over the Miami Dolphins and again in Week 9, listed with an "illness."

The delayed debut of New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is reportedly right around the corner.

Tyson, this year's No. 8 overall pick who missed the Saints' first seven games with a right hamstring injury, plans to play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz .

The former Arizona State standout "should be good to go," Schultz reported Saturday.

Tyson's latest hamstring setback occurred in August during a training camp practice. He left that joint session with the Jacksonville Jaguars early once his run after the catch ended with an awkward fall near the sideline .

Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters that Tyson's foot slipped out from under him as he was hit from behind. Moore clarified that the issue wasn't related to the receiver's injury track record.

At the moment, the 2-5 Saints are tied for third in the league with 39 pass attempts per game . Without a reliable run game, QB Tyler Shough is having to chuck the ball around the yard.

Having Tyson at his disposal should help.

Multiple teams have inquired about the availability of quarterback Daniel Jones , and the Indianapolis Colts are engaging in those trade talks, ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday .

One team that was reportedly interested was the Baltimore Ravens, who wound up acquiring Jacoby Brissett in a deal with the Arizona Cardinals after both Lamar Jackson and his backup, Tyler "Snoop" Huntley, landed on injured reserve .

The Minnesota Vikings are speculated to be among the other teams considering Jones, according to an ESPN and NFL Network report, as Jones spent part of the 2024 season in Minnesota and has familiarity with a Kevin O'Connell offense that's struggled with Kyler Murray under center.

Jones is set to start for Indianapolis at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. This past offseason, the Colts inked the 2019 No. 6 overall pick to a two-year, $88 million extension that reportedly included a $44 million signing bonus.

Since, however, Jones — who was coming off a season-ending Achilles tear — hasn't replicated the promising success he achieved during the Colts' 8-2 start to the 2025 campaign, and Indianapolis has moved on from longtime general manager Chris Ballard midseason , embarking on a franchise reset.
