A man stole and swallowed nearly $800,000 worth of jewelry from a shopping mall, forcing disgusted cops to wait two weeks for it to pass through his system.

On February 26, 2025, Jaythan Lawrence Gilder stole four earrings from Tiffany & Co. in Florida, USA, after posing as a representative of an Orlando Magic basketball team member. When he was stopped by the Florida Highway Patrol, he bizarrely swallowed the items to conceal the evidence.

Gilder showed up at the jewelry store without an appointment and acted as though he was interested in buying the items. After being escorted to a private room to examine the jewelry, he allegedly turned violent, snatching the items and running toward the food court, injuring an employee along the way.

After his arrest, a scan of his stomach while he was in jail revealed the presence of "foreign objects", confirming the jewelry was inside him. Authorities kept Gilder under observation for two weeks, waiting for the objects to exit his body.

Once the items were recovered, they verified that they matched the stolen merchandise. Gilder, who was 32 at the time of the theft, also tried to steal a ring valued at $1.3 million.

He was found guilty by a jury on Thursday (October 22) of first-degree grand theft and robbery with a mask.

He also allegedly carried out a "near-identical robbery" from another Tiffany and Co. in Texas in 2022 and has 48 outstanding arrest warrants in the state of Colorado. This follows an incident where Melanie Kamayou, wife of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, was robbed at knifepoint outside an Italian restaurant in Alderley Edge.

The Daily Star previously reported how Kamayou was allegedly robbed of a gold Rolex watch and a designer handbag in the incident.

Following the frightening ordeal, Kamayou moved to Turkey. She has been married to Onana since 2023, and the pair share a son.

The couple has prioritized their child's privacy, keeping him out of public view.

Melanie accompanied her husband to Turkey when he joined Trabzonspor on loan in 2025, with the arrangement subsequently extended for another season.
