Gus Atkinson has marked an outstanding start to his Test career by being named the ICC's player of the month for July. Surrey fast bowler Atkinson claimed figures of 12 for 106 against West Indies at Lord's - the best by an Englishman on debut since 1890 - during a three-match series in which he bagged 22 wickets. The 26-year-old won the man of the series award on the back of his efforts and is the first England player to win this global award since Chris Woakes' efforts in the Ashes were recognised a year ago.
