The last year for Edinburgh City won't be recalled with much fondness by anyone associated with the capital club. In November, a failure to pay players on time resulted in a six-point penalty being imposed by the SPFL. It sent them hurtling towards the trap door of relegation. Even the prospect of a season back in League Two was in some doubt up until June. Needing a Bronze Licence from the SFA to compete — an award that ensures clubs meet basic coaching, medical and facility requirements — Edinburgh City only managed to satisfy the criteria after what chairman John Dickson described as 'frankly some of the most challenging times in our history'.
